My name is Shaun Garvey and I am a Prevention Counselor within our Student Assistance program at the Prevention Counsel.  I generally work with the 14-18 age range in several high schools in the Buffalo area.  We offer two programs to local schools that allow for emotional and prevention education support to students who may be challenged by certain behaviors, and who also may be suffering from substance use issues. Our goal is provide a confidential and non-judgmental space for the student to experience a unique, open conversation about their use.

I’ve personally loved working the street corners in our community during The Buffalo News’ Kids Day.  To see the morning commuters generously give to a fun day like that makes me proud to be from Buffalo.  Also, during the summer I really enjoy being part of Mayor Byron Brown’s Clean Sweeps.  Those outreach programs are so important for providing free beautification to our streets, while connecting with local residents and informing them of valuable services offered in their neighborhoods.

One fun fact about me is that I enjoy great local restaurants where I attempt to become a more adventurous eater.
